TEDxGadong: Using Contemporary Performing Arts to Express Identity

Here's the details of my speech:

"Akhmal will be talking about how one can express identity through performing arts. He will be focusing on five key aspects (5 EXP’s) one must consider to achieve that ultimate goal: explore, experiment, experience, express, expose.

Having explored and experienced different theatrical platforms with their respective national identities, including Singapore, United Kingdom and Japan, Akhmal thinks that one must experiment with their own or adapted identity – be it on a national or a personal level – in order for one’s work to be well-recognised, locally or globally.

Intrigued by theories and practices of both traditional and contemporary theatre, Akhmal has been focusing his learning on the styles of contemporary theatre designs.

With the success of his debut theatre directing, TW!STED (2016), he believes that it is important for one to realise that contemporary performing art does not limit one’s boundaries in adapting, shaping and embracing identity with a new and fresh perspective."
